Note: When creating a new item the data is saved automatically as soon as the item is created. However, any changes you make afterwards via the Item Detail window as shown on the previous page must be saved by clicking the [save] button otherwise the changes will be ignored. If you're working your way through this user guide like a tutorial then repeat the procedure to create a few more items. (Select 'Create New Item' from the main menu to begin) It's very quick to create new items so making 5 to 10 items will give a good sample to work with during the rest of the tutorial. You may notice that you're not allowed to create another item with a Part Number that already exists. All Part Numbers must be unique. One thing we didn't discuss while creating new parts was the 'Category'. You might have hundreds or even thousands of items in your inventory and when looking for a particular item you'd search for it by Part Number or Description. However, you might not know the exact part number or maybe you'd just like to browse through a group of similar items so you can select one. You'll find it easier to browse your inventory if you group things into categories. For example you might group all nuts, bolts, fixtures and fastening etc. into a category called FAST and electrical components into a category called ELEC. Or maybe you're an electronics specialist with many electrical components in which case one electrical category wouldn't be enough so you'd have groups for resistors, capacitors, diodes etc. While you're creating a new item the category always starts as "NEW" but you can change it to anything you wish. The category box includes a pull-down menu displaying all categories that you've created previously to save you typing them again. To use a category that you've used before simply select it from the list. To create a new category simply type into the box. (Keep your categories short. Just 4 or 5 characters is fine) |
